I6 or V8?

If it's a V8, it'll be a 3.23 lsd. I'm not sure about the I6 though .

BOSS 5.4lt Quad cam V8 is mine

EF was 3.23 with open centre. I think ELs were the same. Of course, the ratio and centre may have been changed since new so you'll have to check on the car. If the diff plug is red it is LSD centre, if black it is open centre. Sometimes the tag will tell you but I've seen many diffs with wrong tags, and even wrong coloured plugs 'cos ppl who work on them don't bother to fit the correct ones back on. Check for LSD by jacking rear wheels off ground and turning one side by hand - if the other side wheel turns the same direction it is LSD. While it is off you can check the ratio with a chalk mark on the tailshaft - as you turn the wheel one revolution count the number of turns the tailshaft does. I've found this to be the only sure way to determine what diff is fitted.

As far as i know, in stock form Ford fitted a 3.23 single spinner to the EL Fairmont. Thats why when accelerating it seems the Fairmonts are a tad quicker than the Gli/Futura as they had 3.08's in them.

Fairmonts had 3.23
auto GLi and Futura's sedans had 3.08 unless order with the factory lsd which come with one ratio for non xr vehicles of 3.23
GLI and Futura manual sedans had 3.23, wagons auto or manual had 3.23

Thanks for the replies. It is 3.23 i had a look when the car was on the hoist. Reason I asked was we had a 11/96 EL Fairmont trade-in at work and i was gonna trade the GLi in for it. But when i came to work the next day they had sold it the night before!

Was a real nice car, some of you Perth fellas might have seen it. Person who owned it was in the "Just Cruzin" car club and the car was white. Also had nice suspension setup with super super low lovells all round and koni shocks, and a nice 2.5 system to top it off. This was a blast to drive! Ohhh well.

PS. I thought the Ghia's IL6 were 3.45 with the Tickford motor.
