EL Falcon Transmission Service Query

Hi,

Just had my EL Falcon serviced at an auto transmission specialist since my mechanic advised that the transmission oil was dirty and it would be good to get it all checked out with a specialist.

After the transmission had been serviced, they advised that the rear bush and seal need to be replaced very soon (They quoted $98 to do this part form me). I have yet to get this done. Do these need replacing very often? My car has travelled about 150,000km.

Also my mechanic advised that I had dirty diff oil. Is this serviced by Auto transmission specialists or is this something someone else has to service?

Cheers

If the oil is dirty? All thats needed is new oil. You can drain the diff via the drain plug. It's the lowest bolt on the bottom of the diff on an EL. It's more than likely the original diff oil. Not that that matters anyway. A mechanic can do this if you can't do this yourself. My almost 5yo daughter could do this job without an issue. It's a simple 5 min job.

Rear bush and seal need replacing? More than likely the seal is the only thing that needs replacing. What destroys the bush is driveline vibrations. ie out of balance tyres or tailshaft. $98 does sound fair if it included a trans service as this is when this should have been rectified. As it's a while we are here job.

My trans in my EL hasn't seen a service in it's 200,000k's of life. It's seen a fluid top up but nothing more. Lost fluid when I replaced the radiator. I'll be getting it flushed this year as the fluids going dark. Flushing the fluid isn't a do at home job as you need all four wheels off the ground, quick access to the filler plug and the car level.
