i was thinking of a manual conversion on my el ghia, just wondering if i can use an ef box and ef ecu, or would these be different?

EF box, yes
EF cpu - probably, but not sure.
afaik, I think you don't necessarily need to replace the cpu when going to manual, they just wire the auto cpu to think that the car is in neutral.

EL Ghia has XR motor (diff. exhaust though), so get a XR ecu if poss. Not sure about whether it is necessary though.

doesnt the ef use coil packs, and the el use a dizzy...wouldnt there be problems there?

yeah, i think you CANT use the EF/EL Computers interchangeable.
from when Walkinshaw was putting the EF Interior in his car, he couldn't use the EF ECU, ended up having to use the EL one as parts just wouldn't work together.

The easiest way would be just to trick the computer into thinking it is in Neutral.

Your EA is EEC4, EF/EL is EEC5.. You won't change them over easily.

umm......i havent got the ea anymore, the questions are regarding my new el ghia

how would i trick the comp into thinking its in neutrel? also would it run the same compared to running an el manual comp?

im thinking of buying a written off el xr, this way i will have all the parts i need, but they are a bit hard to come by

An ELXR ECU would work as EL Ghias had the XR motor so that is probly the best way to go.

To trick your EL ECU into thinking it's in Neutral - run a 7300 ohm resistor from pin 30 (pink/light green) to pin 46 (black/white).
The EF ECU is completely different, but will run an AU :/
