frown EL XR6 5sp Man or clutch problem ? Help!

I thought before I speak to anyone I'd ask here for peoples opinions.

I have a manual EL XR6 thats done approx 145,000km. I'm having trouble getting the car into gear. Also finding that I really have to push hard on the clutch to disengage.

Do I simply need a new clutch ? I've never replaced the clutch before in this car.

If so, can anyone recommend a place to do this in Melbourne.

Thanks for your help guys!

umm, its a little hard to tell i spose with out driving it etc... it could well be the clutch if it hasnt been replaced...

If you are getting a new clutch, get a Daikin!!! they are great.

Is it hard to get into all gears??? Have you checked the clutch cable???

Yes, its hard getting into all gears most of the time. Sometimes its ok, however other times I find that I have to release and push the cluch again for it to disengage. Haven't checked the clutch cable. How do I check ?

I was thinking of buying an original Ford clutch ??

Thanks for the response.

well if you have to push the clutch in again to disengage it, i would think its more likely the clutch etc...

dont get a ford clutch... I have a EA Flywheel on my car, and a small clutch, i give my car hell, and it nEvAh slips or stuffs up. 3000rpm clutch dumps at the drags and it loves it. The EB-ED flywheel is a little bigger and would allow me to use a bigger clutch... You will find heaps of people here recommend a daikin clutch!!!

Re: EL XR6 5sp Man or clutch problem ? Help!

make sure thats the biggest one you can get...

would you be able to fit it yourself??? It might save you a bit of money!!!

Also you want to make sure you get a new spigot bearing and throwout thingy too...

Thats probably a touch too much, maybe a bit cheaper and it wouldnt be a bad price.

Daikin is EXCEDY or something, I think that's what they are know now, i have one of those "rice" anodized in my EF and it's ok but i would like it to have just a bit more slip on initial take off as if I do 3.000 RPM and dump the clutch my Mitchelins wear 10.000 KM in 10sec :)
