Ok, I'm thinking of upgrading to an EL2 XR6 later in the year. I want a manual pretty bad but the last E-series manual I drove had a stiff clutch that I could not live with. I'm led to believe there was something wrong with it because it was bordering onthe line of undrivable.
The brake pedal was softer for crying out loud!
So, are they stiff, or just a little heavy over a smaller car?
all depends what your used to... i consider mine to be light compared to my last clutch but as soon as someone else gets in and presses it they cant belive how heavy it is. Having said that its still heavier than the brake pedal....
When you hop into a corolla / pulsar and push its clutch throught the firewall after driving a falcon you realise how heavy they really are , but you get used to it and dont even notice it after a while....
Not sure if the one you drove had clutch troubles but i wouldnt consider mine "undrivable" by any means....
Go for it i say!

All depends on clutch and also the clutch cable. Had my clutch cable changed in my EF XR6 and it improved the feel in the pedal 200 percent. I have tried two different makes of heavy-duty clutch too, both Daiken (soft easy to push clutch) and PBR (a lot firmer).
I'd say the one you drove possibly had a worn clutch cable and/or fairly heavy clutch.
Th Clutch in my brothers EF xr 6 is considered by everyone to be reallly stiff, it is heavier than i would have assumed for the car but is still drivable, (traffic jams are a bitch though) the clutch is standard and is mucccch heavier than the brake pedal

redghia - get him to change the clutch cable, you'll see the difference then! i had the exact same problem, i had a sore leg like crazy after driving in traffic, especially in Sydney peak-hour... it was crazy!
im with carazy - my clutch feels nice to me, but when other people drive my car they think its heavy. i think they are bitches. i only weigh 67kg and i have no problem with it :s6:
as others have said, a nice new cable improves the feel unbelievably, and its possible to get a daikin clutch which is nicer than stock i reckon.
one thing you have to remember is that the clutch actually has to cope with a bit of hp and a very heavy vehicle - its never going to be like the clutch on an echo for instance...

I can get new Genuine Holden/Ford/Audi/Land Rover/Honda parts cheap, PM me!
When I got my ed futura, I thought gease this thing feels way too heavy, but then I just thought i'd get used to it, as I'd been driving my sis's mazda323 around for 6 months, I was proven right when I snapped the cable :D, lucky I took it for a "good run" (aka speed shifting), and done it while I'm home with the olds, and dad towed me to the dealer. New cable, its sweet as now.
