Engine Idle Switch/Clutch switch

I decide to ring Ford and find out how much one of these switches are, cause when I did my auto-manual conversion, I never put one in, and could not find out what it actually did.

Anyway I rang ford asked them about it, had trouble getting the guy to understand, and when he eventually understood what I was talking about, he brought up the price and get this....$320

Yep Three hundred and twenty dollars.

What the ****!, just for a crappy little switch, what the hell is going on?

Can anyone tell me why this little peice of plastic is so damn expensive?

Do I really have to write something funny in here?

I was quoted $92 a few days ago by Ford dealer for clutch switch on EA, which I thought was a rip-off for about the simplest switch you could make. Paid about $60 a while back for anti-run on switch in XF 34 Weber carb, and that is basic switch too.

I was quoted $30 at same time as clutch switch for the XD-E clutch cable spigot that goes on the engine side of the firewall. Last one I got was $1 at Pick a Part, which is where the next one is coming from too. I'd get clutch switch there too.

I might try a wreckers to see if I can find one, but I have gone for about 9 months without it, so I guess I can keep going.

No-one can even tell what it actually does.

2 switches are used on a manual tranny to provide signal to the ECU. 1 switch is on the clutch pedal bracket & the other on the box & is operated by the gear selector. The switches are mounted in PARALLEL.
the info from both switches is used to cancel deceleration fuel cut off & lean cruise mode when neutral is detected & for idle speed loads...
ALSO 1 cause of surging on manuals EECIV this is why mine surged abit & took a bloody long time b4 someone(other than ford) found the prob....
Maybe caused by a lack of neutral drive switch signal to the ecu.The switch is on the T5 box&looks like a reversing light switch. It provides a signal to the ECU to provide different idle calibrations if the car is in gear or not, there is NO fault code for this!!!! The switch has a 5v supply from ECU pin 30 & the return is to pin 46.
When in neutral, pin 30 should read 0v , in gear 5v ELECTRICKERY AINT YA JUST LOVE IT
Hope it helps someone
cheers Brett

I dont have either of these switches, so does that mean the ECU always thinks the car is in neutral or does it think it is always in gear?

SVO302, Your little message just made me think a bit about exactly that annoying surge me car has. (although the switch was fine on mine, it is quite oily due to a leaky big end seal)
who'd have thought fixing an oil leak would remedy a surge/hesitation problem:p
ADXF. I don't think it would really affect your setup(except maybe fuel economy-wise) unless you have cruise control as well.(switches prevent over revving of motor when cruise control is set but clutch is is / or is in neutral)

Paul if the switch Im thinking you mean is located on the top cover of the gearbox (T5) then retail price is $32.50 inc GST......

Na its not that one. The switch I was after is located in the pedal box.

But dont worry as I will get one from a wreckers.
