The problem is everytime i go to move the car and clutch in (ie. creep forward and declutch) the engine revs up and then steadily reduces the revs to normal idle.
It did this with the old 3.9 CPI in it, and its doing it with the 4.0L MPEFI too.
Is this normal because it does it between gear changes as well.
Could that be a base idle problem as in when rolling in first really slow ie almost stop the revs are say 400 then you apply clutch revs climb to say 600-700, then ISC kicks in and lowers revs. Im not sure if this is valid I only own an auto.
i think what you are describing is normal...the ISC opens more when there is load on the motor (ie when using the power steer or AC) or when you let the clutch out a little.
when you suddenly reduce load on the motor - like putting the clutch in suddenly, the ISC is still open a bit to compensate for the load, so the engine 'free-revs' up a bit until the computer realises there is no load on the motor any more and closes it.

Sounds exactly like what it is doing. I don't know what an ISC is or does. I'm new to the fuel injection side of things as i've only owned carby cars previously. a Slow learning process i guess.
ISC = Idle Speed Controller- fords name for it, also called a IAC = Idle Air Control - holdens name for it
as i said above, its there to let extra air into the motor at idle to compensate for load on the motor - so you get the same idle speed A/C on or off, engine hot or cold, using the power steer or not, etc.

NO i didnt do the 5 speed conversion, but i've had a look and its an auto pedal box with the manual pedal welded on the end. Does the job, though im going to get a proper manual pedal box fitted. The firewall will also need to be reinforced if you're going to a 5 speed as its flimsy.
