Hey all, i have an EF2 6cyl ghia. I'm thinking of buying an EF-EL2 XR8 as i want an 8. But i was thinking instead of spending 18-22k for a new car, why not just put in a EF-EL V8 (stocky 165kw engine) in it. I've seen some priced for about 2000-2500 with computer and looms. It wouldnt be a bad idea as it'd pretty much slot straight without any major changes ie diff, gearbox, mounts etc. If I was to keep the 6 i'd put a blower on it down the track, but it will always be a six :/ Anyone got any ideas?

a blown six would make more power than a stock 8 easily, and you could unbolt the supercharger and sell it seperately when you decide to get a newer car.

IMHO a blown six under the bonnet is a lot more impressive than a stock 8.

How about you get something a little more exotic? Im pondering a 1UZ-FE (4.0L Toyota quad cam 32 valve jobbie) stock there 260hp/201kw). Been reading a few reports on them, and they are a fantastic design, beat the Ford & Holden engines hands down. There built tough! they handle power without flinching.

Change the exhaust cams, and you looking at a 40hp jump in power with no other mods. Then give the heads a bit of a tickle, port match the manifold, have a custom made twin throt upper manifold made up, and a set of 4 into 1s. For a small outlay your looking at a nice 350hp package fitted to an auto.

You can buy the engine/box for $1100, wire it up to a delco and tune it, a few grand on the above mods and you will beat a lot of cars easily. probably get it built for about 5k give or take.

You will want to double that budget for a 1uzfe. The engine is about the cheapest part. You will need to buy a half cut to guarantee that you get all the parts you require. Most engine will be stripped of vital sensors etc. Then you will need to factor in labour costs for engine mounts/ gearbox mounts, crossmember modifications, sump modifcations. Then you will need to find someone willing to wire up the stock system or pay for an aftermarket EFI to be put in/tuned (they will cost about the same). If you go the aftermarket EFI you will need to control the gearbox somehow. Then you need to have an exhaust made, engineers certificates etc. Your looking at $10K.

I think I've made up my mind and I'll whack a blower on the 6. If i was to buy the 8, i wouldnt put it in stock, i'd work it and maybe s/c it. Is there any where besides CAPA that does kits that arent 6k just for the kit?
