Ok, so i got an EL fairmont which the transmission guy said had a very badly worn extension housing bush and seal.

Could this be why i get quite a bit of noisy growling sounds as if i have some kind of exhaust fitted ?

also, is this job possible to do yourself without a hoist or specialist tools ?

did it myself, just as a point to note, its easy if you have something like a heap of sockets that will just fit to evenly punch the old one out and the new one in.

i just did mine too, piss easy. i did it on a hoist. used a forklift with a jib on it to support the tranny, lol.

You dont need any specialist tools at all. All i did was turn up a tool on the lathe at work to punch the old bush out and the new one in. Used a socket to hit the new seal in.
