Hey anyone got any ideas how to get the extension housing oil seal out. This sucker is tight as and is being a real bitch. Any suggestions'd appreciated
I usually jack up the back of the car to stop the tranny fluid leaking out, then pull out the tailshaft. Then it's usually just a matter of levering it out from the inside of the seal with a big flathead screwdriver, as a rule.
Thanks, got it out finally, thing is thou cant get the new seal in. Its the right one but i try knock one end in and the other pops out, talk about fustrating. Anyone have any ideas?
i had the same problem with my rear seal in my T5 (XF). i got the old one out - looked to be held in with silicone - and the new one from ford wouldn't go in, kept slipping out everytime i tried to knock it in. the guy at ford said the seal had been "revised" sine the day of the XF and i just wondered wether i got the wrong seal....anyone know if there is only one seal for the 5 speeds?
If anyones has troubles with rear gearbox seals leaking, i have an excellent seal we sell. Even if you have an auto with a real worn bush and a lot of movement, this seal will work. It is directional and has a small boot, so wont foul on slip yolk or anything. The exact same seals fits all c4's, 28 spline toploaders, singlerails, borgwarner autos (not fmx)and "gasp" saginaws, muncies m20,m21, trimatic, turbo 400 ect. I get all the taxi's run them as they last so long. Part number is AHH505B at any CBC Bearings outlet. I'll stop dribbling now.
If you don't have anything to fit over the seal to drive it in just tap it round gently. If you have ever done hub seals it's the same princple just keep tapping it round. Try not to hit the seal too much in the same point as you can damage the seal like I have done once.
I think it will. I will check and let you know. The best results are in crappy old holdens, beleive it or not. Maybe because they are all so folgged out. haha.
There's a proper tool called an "oil seal puller".........bought one last week to pull my axel seals........$8 from local auto store. Long handle and with hook on the end. They pull them out like butter. I bent the crap out of it - accidently hooked behind the retaining ring welded to the inside of the axel housing.
Rule No. 1: if something doesn't come out easily - PULL HARDER!........not
Use a flat block of wood or a big ~50-60mm socket to tap the new seal back in. It hits the seal evenly and stops the damn things popping out.
