Fluid Change or No

50k on the 2001 ZX3 and it runs great. Check engine came on and dealer replaced dpfe for free (egr type valve?). This is a Focus w/2Ltr Zetec.
Then he tries to sell me transmission flush and fill.
Says it should be done on these every 30K and I'm overdue... $139.95.
I think that's nuts. Level is good, it's clean and still smells sweet.
Shifting is perfect. No leaks.
Owners manual does not give the type identifier for this tranny, but
does say that certain types e.g.FKU2 (fictitious example) should be changed every 30K. I'm thinking that's for trucks that tow...?
So, does anyone know the type designation of this Focus tranny?
Does anyone know what the actual mileage interval is for Trans flush fill ?

Re: Fluid Change or No

Once a year is a good time to change trans fluid whether car is used a lot or not (unless really high mileage).

Re: Fluid Change or No

It's extremely easy to change transmission fluid- it's exactly like changing the oil, if you could imagine dropping the oil pan instead.

Unbolt the transmission pan bolts, let it drain. In some cases, you may need to unbolt a motor mount and lift the engine for the transmission to clear the crossmember. Drop the pan, change the filter, put the pan back on with the new gasket that came with the kit, and pour fresh fluid.
