You are correct. The FMX(cruisomatics) were a very heavy box.The C4 AND 10's have a much broader range of high performance parts and are easier to source.
I think to change from FMX to C4 you need to change trans crossmember position and change of tailshaft. but dont quote me on that. Oh and linkages too. Plus the speedo sender I think too.
I am begining to hate C4's. I'm on my 5th box and they ain't stock either. Finding the right person to build a strong box is hard. I've now got a spare box.
STROKEXD, if you dont mind me asking who did you go to?
I know someone that was running similar times in an XD with a C-4, i can probably find out who built it for him, I dont think he had many problems.
Yes I agree about their overall strength. A very good box for that reason. But a C4 if built properly should handle quite well too. I had both and neither of them failed on me at anytime. I did notice however that the swap from FMX to C4 felt substantial from a gear ratio & weight point of view, but not all that much. Pity there wasnt more aftermarket bits for the FMX.
Your C4 now, is it an auto or manual valve body,
speaking to a guy i know says the most common fault with the c4 and high HP is that you need a manual valve body, otherwise the 3rd gear pack will cook.
The XD i know was running low 11's and then after it was sold ran 10.6 with the c4 and full manual valve body.
The guy that built the C-4 said to give him a call, but if you are concerned about price, then he would recommend go elsewhere (which is fair enough from my point of view - you get what you pay for)
Thanks for the details, I've already got a manual valve body installed, and it was a top dollar rebuild.
The guy you first named in the e-mail is well known to me but I haven't been able to reach him for the last few weeks - he's flat out dealing with full time racers.
The other guy you mentioned is the one who built the box - DTM Engineering - Chris Dimoff. Great reputation but I got a bit put-out when he said for me to expect only 2000k's out of the C4. It's gotta get better than that.
I'll keep trying to reach Peter and see what he says..
If you want more info regarding this other XD, speak to Dom @ Prestige Exhausts in malaga, tell him that I (Jamie) referred you to him and he should help you out, like i said he was running 11's in his XD, without too many issues. (he has since sold the car)
Brendan, you may have to go for the direct feed job top fueller style..............
Crankshaft - driveshaft - diff!! Who needs a gearbox
