Ok, here we go..My son is in the ARMY, Recenty back from Iraq..hurray..anyway, he has a 66 F-100 that he left here for me to restore. Most is going great, but, after closer inspection this truck has turned out to have more scavanged parts in it than the local scrap yard. To the best of my knowledge it looks to be a FMX transmission..not stock...shocker huh, he has been buying parts from Summit and having them sent here. He recently sent me a B&M megashifter that will not mount to a FMX. I have a C-4 tranny here from a 68 mustang, which by the way, is where his truck got the motor... what problems can I look for if i change out the transmission or would it be easier to send the shifter back to Summit and purchase another one?? Not a big Ford guy and would appericiate ANY help.

Well, I can't help you with your problem, sorry.I would think it would be esaier to change the shifter rather than the tranny. But, I'm glad your son made it back home. BTW, Welcome to FF.

Welcome to FF. It sure is good to hear your son got back in one piece. I'm ex-Navy and currently in the Reserves, I wish I could have gone over too. It's hard to explain, but you feel a strong loyalty to the guy's and girls you stand next to in the Defence.

Wish I could help you with the problem but try the 'Ford Truck' part of the forum.

You can put a B&M on a FMX. You can buy a mouting kit for about $40 that makes it work. The guy at The GT Garage in Keilor Rd told me. I though yeah BS everyone says they wont work on a FMX but then he showed me his ute with FMX and B&M shifter. Give them a call. I'm pretty sure he said the part was $30 or $40.

Yup true. A simple mounting kit will solve all the problems. My guess is you'd only need to make up a bracket to hold the cable in the correct position worst case scenario. As it's still only a 3spd auto which a B&M megashifter was designed for.
