FMX Transmition Problems

Just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction with this problem. At takeoff, the transmition slips about 65% of the time only to kick in with a thump about 2 seconds later (if i keep on the throttle). Once its in gear, I can accelerate hard and it wont slip out, even in loaded conditions. It also slips when it disengages, ie: Cruising at 60km/h comming to an intersection/need to slow down. As soon as I get off the throttle, it disengages/kicks down, and when I accelerate after that it usually slips. The other problem being, the other day, I went to reverse out of the driveway, and the selector wouldnt get into reverse. it took some fiddling to get it to stick, and there was a slight griding of gears sound. It needs to be replaced I know, but is there any temporary fix to buy me a month or two of time?

I would take that box and shoot it , needs putting out of its misery , and a good used one is not expensive.
