Umm, well isn't there usually a tag under the diff centre?

if the tag has been ripped off for some reason you have to jack the car up under the diff so the back wheels are off the ground. then get a mate to hold one wheel firmly while you spin the other. if you can spin the wheel then its not LSD. if you cant no matter how hard you try then its LSD. unless the clutchs are totally stuffed you will be able to spin it even if it is an LSD.

It's simple as, just jack up the rear so both wheels are off the ground. Spin one wheel, if the other spins the same way, it's LSD, if the other wheel doesnt spin or spins the opposite direction, it's open wheel.
