I currently own a 1986 F150 with the 4.9l l6 and 4spd man transmission. Does anyone know : What is the latest model transmission, preferably a 5spd man. , that will hook up to this engine in this model year without any modification? I am trying to get a little better gas mialage, but would never give up the truck, or the torquey engine to do it. The truck is a 4x4. Thank you for any help anyone may have.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but I believe the I-6 shares the same bellhousing as the 5.0 and 5.8, that said, 5 spds for it should be fairly easy to locate. They get pricey though, I think the last 5 spd I bought for an 85 with a 5.8 was around 2000 remanufactured.
