Gear paddles

I remember my brother telling me, i think when i was 10 yr old, that you could get a kit, that would convert any auto into a clutchless manual, basically by overriding the computers "need" to change gear...

was he speaking shit??

I must confess, i am kinda interested!

ChipTorque sold a kit that did this to Ford 4-speed autos back in the mid 90's. Street Machine did an article on them. They added an additional stalk to the steering column that you flicked up/down to change gears when the auto was in power mode. Leave the auto in economy mode and it worked like a normal auto.

Same type of technology that's now standard on BA auto's.

I can't see any mention of it on their website these days so I don't know if they still do them.

i remember it, it was from chiptorque and they called it a trans-switch...

Well at least i know they did exist. My brother isn't crazy
