Hello Guys,

My gearbox is well and truly on its way out, instead of having it reconditioned, im thinking a better idea is to buy a recoed gearbox complete or a new one and replace my gearbox.

My car is '90 EA MPEFI manual.
Ive had some work done to the engine, but im buying a rebuilt EB 4.0 MPEFI engine soon which is guaranteeing me some big KWs for an NA 6.

Should I go again for the EA T5 or would I be better going for another gearbox, perhaps EB or ED T5 ? Should I stick with standard gear ratios or aim for something in particular ? My diff is 3.23

Define big? KW. At what revs? I would go for a 3.28 ratio box without hesitation, or a 2.95 ratio box with a diff change in your future as an option.

Yep well my current 3.50 ratio for first is too short, but what diff change do you recommend to be with a 2.95?

Power im talking to be at high revs (3500-5000 revs)

3.45 would give you about 10% taller than what you have now, or 3.7 would give you about 4%, with a corresponding improvement through the other gears due to the lower diff.

I just don't understand now this, why to change to a taller gearbox ratio to then change to a 3.45 or 3.7

I don't quite understand how say for example now I have:
first gear ratio : 3.50
diff ratio : 3.23

What would be the point of going to a lower gearbox ratio of say 2.95 to then change the diff ratio to say 3.83 (if it existed) which then would be nearly exactly the same as what I have now ?

The idea is to keep first useable, but gain improvements in the rest of the box, particularly fourth. Highway economy is maintained by using a higher ratio fifth, of which there are a few available. How does 2150rpm at 110km/h sound with 3.7 diff?

Ok you sold me the 2.95 gearbox now !
I think they are very expensive for one of those because they are a V8 box ? I will probably have to go for a 3.25 box which I am considering buying. I'll enquire on pricing abroad in the next week or so.
