i have a donor car with a t5 to put in my ea. i have finally got time to muck around with it but the gears now are very hard to change and it crunches badly also the clutch pedal is very hard to push in.. i have noticed a leak at the back of the box but i emptied the oil.. which only had half a litre in it and put nearly 2 litres of brand new oil in.. and still no go.. any ideas would be helpful...

clutch may be rooted or on its way out, or badly adjusted....

get the box rebuilt and put in a new clutch and it should be fine.

hahaha but you forgot welding the firewall , replacing pedal box , new cable , throwout arm...the list goes on!!!

Take cable out and check that inner cable slides easy, if not a new one is required...
The rear g/box seal may be stuffed if leaks bad replace it, check O ring around speedo sender they can leak....
Imo I'd drain all the oil out and refill with a light g/box oil made for modern box's. It may be full of older type hypoid oil...The thicker oil can slow the synchro's from working properly....

Yep me agrees, crunching is probably clutch cable adjustment, try fiddling with it...
And change the rear seal, it's not expensive - just lever the old one out and tap the new one in (with the tailshaft removed :s6:)

what's the best oil to use in the T5?

Penrite 'extra lite' gear oil.
