hey,
ok bout a month ago now i had full service done on the car, i asked him especially to change gearbox and diff oil.
The car is:
89 Ea s-pack
5speed manual
MPFI 3.9L
after he changed the gearbox oil i have had some strange noises in my gearbox. like on the way home from the mechanic i noticed the noises,
i cant see me saving up the money to get the gearbox reconditioned anytime soon.
my thoughts are, that he has used a thinner gearbox oil, maybe designed for newer cars. i was thinking that maybe if i went down to autobarn or somewhere and got some gearbox oil designed for older cars, and that is a thick (heavy) oil that my gearbox will go back to being a silent thing again.
what oil do you other guys with t5's use? whats it worth? and where can i get it?
or am i totally off the ball and need a full recondition job done on my gearbox?
the best oil i have found is a costrol oin can remmember what it was, it was a dextron III but it changes smooth as silk now

I've got Transmax Z which is damn expensive and I haven't put in yet. Also putting in a Nulon manual transmission additive which I've heard good things about. I hope it improves the terrible shift quality a lot.

I reckon I'm gonna change my clutch cable aswell, it's the original one out of the EA that they got the tranny from, and I'm hoping that that's the only reason why the stupid thing bucks violently all the time...
the reason yours is noisy in neutral with the clutch up is because your thrust bearing has dried up or has gona cactus for some reason, nothing to worry about, $10 part and $200 job (to get gearbox out and all), just wait till u need a new clutch and get it replaced aswell..
anyways back to me =P,, yer i think ill go and get me some of that dextron stuff sounds decent =-)
