I have what I believe is a Borg Warner T5 (out of a Mustang) to go in a 1970 Capri behind a supercharged 302W, with about 500bhp. I was told in another forum that the gearbox probably won't handle the power throughput for all that long :(
Would someone be able to recommend another manual gearbox? Thanks.
if you want an auto, the C10 is a bulletproof gearbox. the performance isn't bad

My mate got a supra turbo 5 speed box for his 308 torrie for around $700. Its rated at 550 Hp or thereabouts.
Apparantly there is a place in warnambool/warri yallick /woop woop somewhere i forget the place that imports and sells the boxes 2nd hand for round $500 and the conversion kits are around $200-300 from the castlemaine rod shop.
The only criticism i have is that 1st in his car is nearly useless. He only gets to around 30k's before needing to change. He only has a 3.08 diff as well.

Your mate was robbed. It was not a Supra Turbo box, but a Turbo Hilux box that he was sold. 4.06 first gear, and they look the same as each other.

A T56 would be a nice choice, or a TR3550 or TR3550 series two, depending on application. The T5 is most likely a V6 Mustang box, similar internals to a local XR6 box, or a 2.3L Mustang box, similar internals to an EA box.

How can you be so sure? Is the supra box a tall first gear? Is the hilux box at all strong? He will be pissed when i tell him.
That would explain why it was so cheap tho.
