Gearbox Problem with EF Falcon

My father is currently having dramas with his EF Falcon. It is an automatic, and for some reason the gears seem to be slipping.

It is much worse in the cold mornings. I was in the vehicle the other morning and when the car was changing gears, the engine was revving however the car was hardly going anywhere. Just last week a mechanic had a look and checked the transmission fluid level which was just on the "add' mark. He did a service, and the fluid replaced and filled up. The mechanic thought this was the answer to the problem.

Yet the problem is still there. Also the car is reluctant to switch from 3rd to 4th at all times now, with the car doing 2000rpm at 60km/hr on flat road. This is while it is in economy mode. When we switch to power it then will change and the rpm will drop.

Its going back to the mechanic this week. Has anyone come across this type of problem before? Any suggestions?

Re: Gearbox Problem with EF Falcon

i had my trans slipping on cold mornings in my EF, did it once, then was fine for the day, topped the trans fluid up and it was fine.
planning on getting a full flush done of the auto trans fluid at the end of the year though.

my car won't go into 4th doing 60, unless economy is turned off, its just how the car is.
65-70 it switches to 4th if in economy.

Re: Gearbox Problem with EF Falcon

Your EF has a diagnostics connector that will output fault codes not only for the engine, but also for the transmission. That is the first place to start. Check the codes. If your mechanic can't do it take it to someone who can. Or learn to do it yourself.

Re: Gearbox Problem with EF Falcon

the economy mode will hold third gear because this mode is often used for towing, fourth gear is overdrive meaning basically no power.
