Gearbox recomendations?

I've just decided to put a stroked 351W in the EF instead of the supercharged 302W. Now i've gotta change gearbox. I've got a stg2 C4 with 3000rpm convertor, but I doubt that it would last too long.
I'm planning on a minimum of 500RWHP, plus a 100shot of NOS. Not fussed whether its manual or auto. I like the controlability of a manual, but those 11" clutches are a pain in the ass if your trying to drive sedately. But on the other hand, if I want to take it for a run out of town, I don't want it to be sitting on the convertor for 2 hours.
Any suggestions?

Close ratio T56, 10.5" strap drive twin plate. Clutch will feel like a stocker. The arrow coupe had a 392 windsor and this box.

you will need a tremec TKO to handle that sort of power or a 4 speed XY-GT HO toploader. The other thing u must be planing to run a NASCAR SVO block if you are gonna get 500rwhp ( i assume that rwhp stands for rear wheel bhp) because if you are not send us your address because me and couple of mates wanna see the fireworks the first time you squeeze the throttle. The most power that a stock ford block (351) will handle is 700bhp (600bhp for 302) and thats at the flywheel. I don't mean to sound like a smartass but have you ever driven a car with that much power. A motor like that will cost you $12500+ that's if you want it to be reliable. Just remeber a reliable bhp dosne't come cheap.

500rwhp from a na v8 would be a screamer of an engine, a stroked 351w at summer nats made 700hp at the rollers on race fuel, at over 9000rpm.... that had a svo block i think.

Re: Gearbox recomendations?

I8AHSV. I'm currently looking into which block will suit my needs. I havn't driven anything this powerful before, but everyone has to start somewhere. I have built and driven some pretty quick cars, and believe that I have enough experience now to start a bigger project. Best quote for the bottom end parts so-far is around $5500, plus a bit more than that for the heads.

Re: Gearbox recomendations?

500 naturally aspirated rwhp is going to be a bit of a mission...might i suggest that utilising an underbonnet supercharger would make your target infinately more achievable and driveable?

There are 10sec Mustangs using the AOD box in the states.

Re: Gearbox recomendations?

Rollin- I've been looking into the vortech superchargers. As well as turbo setups, different heads/manifolds/fuel supply. Just trying to get as much info on whats out there as I can. I'm definately going with the stroked 351 engine, but what else I bolt onto it is still up in the air.

Re: Gearbox recomendations?

Rob Bertolacci runs an XB Falcon, with 504cube BB, C4 auto, and heaps of NOS. This car runs 8.9 all day every day, and is his daily driver as well. He is a regular at willowbank, and at the pro street shootout. So your C4 can handle the power, built right of course. Rob reckons that with that much grunt, the car is still very streatable, as i said, its his daily driver. I dont know the exact figures, but to push a full body XB down the strip in 8.9s, it would be a lot.
And if anyone has ever heard this car at idle, you would think it was a 351W with set of headers, and a stage 2 cam. Very nice package.

Also, as EBXR said, the AOD is a fantastic box if you want O/D, but is limited to about 800-900 HP
