In terms of under load it is when you accelerate either going up hills or overtaking and changing into fifth gear from fourth under those conditions always without fail resulted in the gears grating.
The vehicle has done only 30,000km's, is never driven hard and has certainly never been abused. In fact Ford said it was a problem with a lot of the 5 speeds and no mention was made in relation to skip shifting whatever that might be.

Skip shifting is "skipping" a gear, ie going from 2nd straight to fifth. This is a cause of most fifth gear problems in the BA. The rest of the problems are from the vague throttle and clutch in the BA. There is no such thing as shifting under load. The car may be under load when you let the clutch out, but during the shift, if there is load, there is a problem with your clutch or technique. The fifth gear assy in a BA is the same as used all the way back to XF, with no problems.
