HELP! (hoping just clutch cable) - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

driving home from work last night, just taking it really easy... accelerate like a grandma, change slowly into second, get up to about 50k's and i put my foot on the clutch pedal, and it felt extremely different to it has ever felt before.
and the car wouldnt go into 3rd. so i pulled over to let passing cars go past me, and went to put it into 1st to pull out again and it wouldnt let me change into 1st!!. so im think oh shit, so i think ok i will get home in 2nd. so i try to change into 2nd and it still wont go in.

i pumped the clutch pedala bit, and with alot of strength jammed it into second and drove home in 2nd gear. after fiddeling with it today, it seems i can get into all gears using force. (except reverse) , and i can idle in all gears with clutch in, and can drive in all gears.

i am hoping that the clutch cable has snapped a few strands and is extremely loose.
will pull it apart tonight and have a look..

i am just worried that the cable is fine and i have snapped a few prongs on the diaphram pressure plate =-\ coz thats gona be a bitch to fix.

ill keep yas posted with what i find the problem to be.

until now looks like ill be scabbin lifts to school again..

Question: has your firewall been reinforced for the clutch cable?

ANother question, was your clutch really heavy to push in.
I am used to it, but when other ppl drive they alays complain....does it need oiling or what. ???

It's normal for the clutch to be heavy as all hell. Now that I've gotten used to a manual Corolla, it will be fun stepping back into the EA.

Seriously though, it shouldn't be that heavy.
Only plus side to the heavyness is that the g/f doen't like drivin it !!!!

Its most likely YOur clutch Cable has pulled through the firewall which has cracked under the pressure. With the bracket from ford and about 3 or 4 hours you can weld or bolt on the new bracket to the firewall and this should solve your problems.

Best way to check is to rip off the sound proofing heatproof black stuff surrounding the clutch cable (you'll find it near the brake booster cylinder) and cheack the firewall for cracks. Its a relatively easy job and its inexpensive if you do it yourself.

ok..
i just finished pulling the clutch cable out, not the clutch cable or anything to do with the firewall!!!
ive had the car for about a year, and trust me the clutch feels rooted, i pulled whole clutch cable out and it is fine i put it back in and i think i am going to take it to the mechanic tommorow..

i am pretty sure a few of the 'fingers' have broken off the pressure plate, so the gear box is going ot have to come out ect. and cost me a fortune. =\

well every place ive talked too reckons that they can put in the aftermarket clutch pacakge for me for about $550, which doesnt sound too bad considereing all the shit they gota do.
plus in the kit is a thrust bearing! so i can fineally get rid of that shitty noise ive been putting up with.

ill let yas know how it goes when i get it back on thursday nite =)
