Hi,

Im wondering how do you drain the oil from the Diff in a 1982 XE S-Pak Falcon (coil suspension diff)...

The filler plug is actaully a big rubber bung you can pull out.

There appears to be no drain plug on the bottom of the diff housing to let the oil out.

The only way it seems possible is to remove the stabilser bars on the back of the diff housing and remove the backing plate and let all the oil out.

Is there an easier whay?

From memory, one of the lower backing plate bolts is the drain plug. I seem to remeber it is larger that the others but I might be wrong.

that is right, on the bottom of the housing backing plate one bolt is larger than the others and if you undo that she'll empty out.

just incase any 9 inch guys are reading this, u have to drop a axle and raise the opp side of car or get a small man and bucket to fit inside filler hole..LOL

Hehehe. Nah draining oil is only done when you swap centres on a 9 inch diff. hahaha.

Always change the diff oil after you have run the diff in. Not replacing the oil is the primary reason that diffs wear.

It is possible to drain the oil in a 9" without pulling the centre out or pulling the axles out.

After taking the car for a drive.
Remove the nuts & copper washers
Break the seal and pull the pumpkin forward around 10mm.
Drain as much oil as you can.
Wipe the seal surface clean.
Apply permatex.
Put new copper washers on and tighten the nuts.
Add oil and friction modifier.

Alternatively weld a drain plug into the bottom when the diff is out of the car.

The bolt I undid was on the very bottom in the center, no oil came out.

They all look the same size.
Unless its one of the bolts either side (they are slightly higher though)
