How many rpm does ur auto do before it changes gear
okies i got an eb fairmont and for some reason no matter how much my foot is buried in the first 3 gears it wont pull over 3500 rpm leaving it in drive, also either the globe in the pwr light or theres another problem there, so just wondering where the problem may lie afaik the auto is fully automatic so its not a vacuum line like on an old c10 auto, but god damn i wish it was

i know with the EECV and i am guessing the EECIV aswell, the bulb in the cluster completes the circuit for power/economy.. Without a completed circuit it does not function as it was intended.. I'd get that working before i tried anything else

I'd nearly bet $100 on the accelerator cable. They stretch and fray over time and as tibbo said, it doesn't open the throttle butterfly all the way. They are about $35 for a new one from Autobarn, trust me it'll be the single cheapest and most effective performance mod you will do!

I had a similar prob with my 3 speed EA. It would only rev to 3000 rpm. Changed the accelerator cable and it revved to 3500 which I was quite happy with. There was also a 'kickdown cable' within the transmission that had stretched but that was a bit over my head.

About 4500 for me on Econ, or *5500* in Power. I find it depends on engine temp, gradient, and whether I have it on premium or regular unleaded (regular tends to change at about 200rpm higher).
I absolutely LOVE a certain (private) street in M'well where you can almost get air at the top when the auto is in Power mode, either for D or going thru the gears. I need to practice gear changing actually, I tend to overdo 1st & just about zing it, then shoot thru to D. Anyhoo, it's a very steep hill, with a sudden crest. A few friends of mine have gotten air there in their little pizza delivery starlets
