Hi,

I have a EF Fairmont and im planning to put more herbs under the bonnet soon, and i was just wondering what power people are putting through them?

Also is there any CHEAP mods that you can do to them to strengthen them? As im planning a new gearbox for it in the near future i dont want to spend much money on it and just want it to survive for 6-9months.

i have 209rwkw going through mine and it's holding up okay for now.

I'm putting 250rwkw+ through mine although it has been rebuilt with extra clutches and a better band, also running a 2800 high stall.
Just need to go easy on overdrive, i fried mine very quickly with the torque the engine is making.

ill put it this way, on average they only last around 200,000kays with stock power running through them

somone should tell my 275k, and my mates 365k stock boxes to stop being as good as my 138k box. Service them an run the biggest trans cooler u can fit and they will last a whole swag longer tha 200k

280,000km original stock box, no problems at all with mine! Then again, the torque from the V8 is only up a small amount compared to the six (around 30Nm?)

EDIT --> Don't the AU XR8s have the same box as E-series? (Apart from the adaptive shift) If so, their power vs standard E-series vehicles is a significant difference
