Hey guys, first I wanna tell that Iīm from Brazil...so, sorry by my bad english.
I wanna change the transmission of my car (in fact isnīt the entire transmission...is only the shifter).
Here in Brazil I donīt found nothing relationated with the B&M Megashifter. I saw this shifter in an american magazine called " Summit racing equipment" and I wanna buy some shifter like this to put in my car.
Whatīs the point: I have a Maverick GT (1976), V8 motor, all standard. I just wanna know what of these shifters like "B&M megashifters" (or another brand) will work rightly on my standard transmission.
Brenden, thank you so much by answer my question!
But my Maverick is a 4 speed auto...
And, if somebody can help me, please tell me which models of shifters i can use on my car (Brazilian Maverick GT, V8 engine, year 1976...the mechanic is all standard)! Iīm having problem to choose one, īcoz i canīt understand the language used on the websites that sells these parts.
The reason I ask is, in 1976 all we had was a 3 speed C4 and FMX. There wasn't a 4 speed automatic in Australia or the USA available. Eventually the US got an AOD overdrive or 4 speed transmission. It sounds like someone has done a conversion on your car.
You need to know exactly whats underneath as you can't just but a shifter and hope it fits.
G'day, I just changed my ford xm 1964 manual to auto. It originally had the column shifter so I bought the B&M megashifter to make it a neat floor shift job. Originally when I bought the shifter I was putting a C4 automatic transmission in but it required to much work so I just put a borgwarner 35 automatic. After all the motor is only a stock 170 so the BW35 will handle the lack of horses no problem. The only thing was then that the Megashifter comes with a lot of adapter plates for various transmissions but none for the BW35 so my ace mechanic had to fabricate one using the supplied c4 plate. It works fine like a normal transmission shifter but when you put it into ratchet mode, it wont shift through the gears. Heh but having a stock 170 motor I don't exactly need to be using ratchet mode.
Wgat you need to do is find out what transmission you have. THe megashifter like most B&M and Hurst shifters fit the following transmissions using the standard brackets supplied.
Universal 3 or 4 speed for GM TH400, 350, 700R4,200-4R,250 & 200. Ford c4, c6 & AOD (but you need an additional kit #40496). Chrysler TF-727, 904. AMC '72 & later torque command transmissions.
The shifter comes with 2 indicator plates so it is compatable for both 3 and 4 speed autos.
guys, i got some informations about the transmission of my car.
It is a "Clark 4 4.89:1", 4 speed MANUAL (and it is original, nobody does any conversion in my car. the transmission is really that one). The engine of my car is a V8 302.
More informations about my transmission (i dunno if this will help ya):
