My car feels a bit sluggish when accelerating and sometimes labors when going up steep hills. It has a bad S5 solenoid and is booked in to be fixed next week. Is there anything I can tell the guy to check/adjust while he is fitting the solenoid to improve acceleration?

I have not noticed any gear slippage, car is an ED Falcon with a BT85 transmission.

BTW will improving acceleration lower fuel economy when cruising? Does "economy/power (overdrive?)" mode make any difference?

ask the guy if hes gonna adjust the bands, if not get him to do it as it will extend the life of the tranny and give better shifts (i think)

maybe get him to put in an adjustable s5 solenoid ( i dont know the price difference) and get him to adjust it up but not much. but only get him to do this if the mechanic knows what u mean or he knows what hes talking about.
if u know what i mean...

there isnt much else you can really do, except get him to put a synthetic additive in with the new oil, can decrease the oil temp a tiny bit and better shifting. i will prob go out and find one soon for the EB.

the power button is there mainly for towing and when you want the car to hold the revs longer, better shifting (thru increasing the line pressure within the tranny) and kickdown quicker/earlier.
it hasnt anything to do with overdrive as that is 4th gear.
