Installing a 3speed..

How much should I consider to be a reasonable price for a 3speed swapover..

I've been quoted $300 just for labour to swap over my old 3speed for a new one.. Is this a decent quote? The reason I'm asking is that there is only a couple of auto transmission places close to my home and work so I can't ring around all over the place.

If someone also has a 3speed in very good nick I'd be very interested in checking it out..

Thanks guys,
Dave

Last time I checked, Jack Travis was selling the low-kilometre example from his car. See the thread below for details...

For Sale: EA 3 speed auto (Melb)

its a big job, $300 sounds about right to me. I did mine myself ( with the help of my dad - mechanic ) and we ran into a few different obstacles. You can pick up a good 3sp for around $100-$150 ( think Jack Travis ) so $300 on top of that isnt a bad deal considering the price of a good 4sp.

Problems we ran into were the mounts wouldnt line up so we used some "tongues" to allow the box to be bolted to the subframe. Also the wiring is a little different, I think we had to rewire the neutral safety switch ( inhibitor switch )
tailshafts are the same etc

EDIT* I just realised that you already have a 3sp, just replace it yourself as that price is ridiculous, its a fairly easy job.

So $300 for a straight swap is ridiculous?

well its not that hard of a job, but if you dont have the time or the know how I guess its an ok price but remember you have to buy one on top of that price. If its the cheapest price around and you definately want to pay someone to do it, then go for it...where do u live? id do it for $300
