got a bit of a problem with my mum's LTD. it occurs very rarely so its hard to pin down. basically you will be cruising or lightly accelerating and suddenly with no warning it will kick back a gear or two. scares the life out of you. it has happained on the open road and as low as about 40kmph.
I have swapped over the TPS units in the hope that they were the problem but it did it again today. because i have the same car i can swap over parts but i need some suggestions on what else it could be!
cheers fellas.

Cheak the level if it is low it will kick down (or serge) early. Also check the colour.
The filter could be blocked and you are loosing pressure.
Also as it is an 8, swap the TPS with the engine one. See how it drives.

yeah i've swapped the TPS with mine and its still doing it. i guess it could be the filter or oil, but i doubt it. the cars only done just over 100k. Ill investigate it though.

I remember someone in another thread a while ago mentioning holding the shifter in 1st and accelerating normally, if it shifts into 2nd its the trans switch mounted to the side of the trans.
Also, does it only do it after driving on wet roads?

100k is alot of klms for a trans. Especially if it hasn't been flushed and had a filter done yet!
