I was wondering if any of you guys have had a limo diff that is that shagged, that it responds like an open centre? I have a mates car here, and we were going to pull the diff down to have the bearings replaced, but just checking, in neutral, I can hold one wheel, and he can turn the other in either direction. I checked the diff plate, says performance diff, so do they react as an open centre when the clutches are totally worn, or is there another way to find out, if it is in fact a limo, or should we go and buy another for his car?
*Some* LSD designs rely on a little resistance on both wheels to make the clutch pack lock up... ZF's definitly do, I think Posi's work the same way? but yeah, if you can provide a little resistance for the other wheel to work against they'll lock up....
So why does the tag say high performance, use approved lubricant?
I am not sure of this, and really believe myself that its an open centre, but he is adamant its a limo. Do all diffs have a tag on them, saying high perf?
i' guessing its a borg warner(what car is it from??)
i've had soft LSDs that i could turn by hand with tyres on(couldn't turn just with discs)
If its a borg warner and you've got both wheels off the ground and in park when you turn one wheel the other will turn the opposite if its not lsd
not sure IF the 9" is the same?
as far as i know ESPECIALLY BETWEEN ZH and NA Furlanes all had LSD as standard,
later models NA and onwards i have noticed have less pre load in cup and cone PROBABLY to prevent inexperienced drivers from going sideway on every wet day. almost useless for a dry road doughnut
i'd bet my left nut its LSD(i lost my right one in a bet)
have you tried jackin both wheels off the ground and turning one. if the other goes the opposite direction i'd have to lose the bet and say its an open centre
I was more looking at sourcing him another centre that is a limo, so the diff that is in the car will be tossed in the corner, seeing I have a good housing here. It would have stopped me having to pull the bloody thing out tonight, and could have gotten the other ready and done it next week.
