Hi guys, My five speed is in and the car is working. Just having a little drama with the idle. It is revving between 300 and 1500 revs at idle. I gather this is because the computer is confused and looking for the auto gearbox. I had a thought. If I were to work out which wire tells the computer the box is in drive, ten put a switch on it, this may fix my problem. So, The wires are shorted to think the car is in park so I cna start it. I then flick the swtich so it thinks it's in Drive. Will this work? Anyone got any other ideas short of putting a new computer in?

you really should put a manual computer in it.other things should happen in a manual like ign timing retard in top gear.auto ecm wont do this.make sure you have an earth strap from the box to the stud on the floor on the lhs.if not fitted this can make them hunt and the speedo flicker.

Cheers mate, I do intend to buy a manual ECU but the cost is slowing me down. Wouldn't the box be automatically grounded through the engine block being grounded?

yeah logic would dictate so but i made the mistake of not putting this earth on when doing an eb auto to man conversion for a friend and this was all that made a difference from shit idle-fluctuating from 500 to 1300 rpm and a real bad hesitation at 3000rpm when trying to drive it.put the earth on and all was sweet.had to change ecu afterwards because it pinged its tits off at anything over two thirds throttle in fifth gear.the man ecu fixed this.
