Well just wondering my baby is built July/2001 and it's i think one of the last AUII XR6 HP's around before the AUIII rolled off.
I've heard that mid production of AUII's the LSD 3.45 Diff became an option as opposed to standard. Just wondering can anyone confirm if this is true or not. IF it became an option i'm just hoping the previous person ticked the LSD option.
I can check when the car comes by the LSD tag on the diff, but i'd like to know in advanced. :s5
It's true Gaz, mid-way thru AUII Ford dropped LSD on HP's back to an option. I remember seing the mechanical specs for the XRs in their virtual showroom, and there was a note with the month that LSD has become an option - I just can't remember when.
I have a XR6 HP AU2 Series 2 that was also delivered July 01 and was nearly caught out with this one but saw it on the Ford Website just in time to make sure the LSD option box was ticked. As I understand it (from my experience) any XR6HP built June 01 for delivery July 01 was under the new specs (ie LSD option, side skirts std., colour coded side windows etc.) The LSD option had a cost of $345 but I went off at the dealer as I had ordered in April when it was std. They agreed to cover cost anf threw in Heavy Duty Towbar at no cost to smooth the water. Another example of a lack of communication from Ford and it's dealer network to the client!!
Ahh well looks like she's a single spinner. I had a rough look under the car yesterday at and it seems theres no LSD tag.
Ahh well can't expect everything. For me it seems they swapped coloured mirrors for LSD as mine has full tickford bodykit so those SR style side skirts don't exist on my baby.
Oh the positive single spinners have less mechanical internals to go wrong.
:s3 :s3
I have an EFII Fairmont I6. I do not have an LSD diff or 3.45 ratio gears. Anyone know how much it would cost to convert the single-spinner to LSD and pop in a set of 3.45 diff ratios?
Don't know if this helps much, however I am pretty sure that Ford made the LSD on the HP an option at the same time that they added colour coded mirrors across the XR Range. From memory this was around June 2001. I think this was the same time that they added the 17" to the VCT as well.
Don't know why they took the LSD off, must have been to save a few extra dollars. Still at least you have got the manual :s6:
Mine is an October 01 build AUII XR6 HP and LSD was an option. I didn't realise that until the salesman asked if I wanted it, I didn't get it. Actually I wanted LSD (no not the drug!) but it was going to take too long for them to deliver a car that did. I didn't think was it worth the wait.
I think another way is if you jack up the rear wheels and spin one wheel the other should spin in the same direction if it is an LSD and if it spins the opposite direction it's not an LSD.

I was suprised at how well the XR6 takes off. You really do have to put the boot in hard to make it come unstuck. I have spun it in 2nd after a hard take off. I was showing a Commodore S ute that he needs something more than a poverty pack to keep up.
Going around corners, yes, the inside wheel has spun. Twice it has happened to me so far. Once was going around a round about and this idiot didn't give way, I put the foot down to get away and went throught it sideways as the wheel spun. The other was turning right coming out of a driveway to beat the traffic.
The more I've owned my car, the more I think that LSD would take the fun out of a RWD.
As a point of interest, my drivers side wheel likes to break traction a lot. Did you notice that when you were driving the EL? Could just be that I have crap tyres.
There was a story on Today Tonight last night (Thursday) about how Choice magazine did a comparo of family car tyres. The Dunlop Monzas that came with my car were one of the worst. The best all rounder they found was Kumho Powermax 769. Might get those soon (after Wakefield... :s3 )...
Hehe trust me an LSD doesn't take away from the fun of owning a RWD car. I went from a Comm S (no LSD) to the VCT with an LSD and its amazing just how well it gets the power down. Hehehe got to love the fact that the XR will start to go sideways before it breaks out into wheelspin. :s2:

if you can find one i havn't stoped looking for about 4 months now and to get one it's about 500 when they get one or centre swap they want from 600-800 dollars
I could be wrong here, but the reason the RH wheel spins more than the left on Non LSD car is because the engine spins clockwise, so power is transferred to the right first?
LSD rules!!!!!!!!:wnc: :s4 :s5 :s6: :s2: :s1
My auto ED used to suck on quick takeoffs before I put in an LSD diff(also went from 3.08 to 3.27 ratio). It also used to light up the drivers side rear wheel doing a u-turn quickly, now it slides the arse end out in a fun way. With my LSD 351 ute I can easily induce a bit of controlled sideways action out of a roundabout if I feel like it.
I highly recommend LSD for fun, performance, grip in the dry and more fun :s6:.
my ED has a normal diff, and youve gotta do some pretty special driving to get it sideways in the dry! eg,compression lock ups into corners, going just plain to fast for a corner. Or its gotta be wet, slippery, dirt etc to get it sideways. I so much wish i had an LSD!!!!!!! Id be getting sideways all the time!! !! I have 225 tyres on the back, good stiff suspension etc, and if im going for it, just driving fast, not trying to do burnouts, itll spin the inside wheel all the time, ive had it happen at even 120+km/h.
LSD's are real bad news for people who arent performance drivers. I know of more than one "lady"lol, thats spun the v8 statesman into a pole.! it happens so so often. but without the LSD, it wouldnt.
Anyway, i want one!!
LSDs rule~! you can do the best donuts!!lol! even on dry ashphalt!! :-D
Yep a car with LSD does need to be treaten with respect in the wet especially.
I had a bingle in my old EA which was due in a big way to the LSD. I sent the car sideways into another car taking a wet corner a little too quick. Still I wish I had an LSD in the EF now instead of the single spinner.
