I should also add as well as the more power sap from the auto unit, the 1st and 2nd gear ratio's on the BTR box's are very tall.
Comparing 1st gear the auto has a 2.39:1 against a 3.25:1 in a T5 manual. When one multiplies the torque you can see which one will launch more urgent (provided one gets a good clutch/rev takeoff in a manual).
