Hi guys,
Ive got a five speed manual which makes a knocking noise when the car is moving and there is close to no load on the gear box - little revs. The other day, I jumped underneath and found that there was some free play up and down and in the axial direction (- it felt generally worn) where the tail shaft slides over the spline in the extension housing. Is this normal or could it be the cause of the knocking????????

yeh ive got the same problem, apparently its the differental the carrier inside. take it to a diff expert, a cheap fix would be a minispool or a s/h centre - see how you go

Yer, ive had the diff checked out. Its fine apparently. Though could be hard to tell
