I am undecided on which gear to switch to. I have a 63 Ford galaxie, with a 289 (195 HP) and a C4 trans. The car came with 14 inch tires originally, however its been switched to 17's and lowered 3 inches. Unfortunately with the small motor and 3:25 gear and 17 inchs rims the car has no torque so im changin it to either a 3:50 or 3:70. Please help, i dont want over kill, i still want to be able to cruise aT 70 for a bit if nec. But I also want to twist the tires a bit and get some off the line. Im hoping to buy a 390 to drop in , but its a ways off. Anyone know of one?

What tyre sizes were you running when it was 14's and what are you running now on the 17's???

I think you are best off working off overall rolling diameter, and seeing the difference there before trying to determine best ratio...

Im at 27 inchs ground to top of tire now. 255/255 now. Not sure what the original 14 rim was running on. I will have to look in the trunk at the orignal spare. Sedn me a pic of your mustang. kmalec69@hotmail.com
