Need help on engine/trans troubles

In my 67 mustang I had a stud on the torque converter strip, so I took a torque converter out of a 71 Torino with a 302 and C4 transmission and put that into my car with a 302 and C4. Now that its all back together and I start it up, there is a very loud humming noise coming from inside the bellhousing somewhere, but I am not sure. Even when the engine is cranking you can hear that it just doesn't sound right. I shimmed my starter and that did not seem to help either. I have tried 2 different starters now, and also changed the flexplate twice, still the same results. What is causing this and how do I fix it? Please help me. Thanks

Sorry, I found my own problem. The input shaft was a different size from Mustang to Torino. I just converted all the different parts from the Torino transmission to the Mustang transmission. But now I have the trouble of no 1-2 shifting...Anyone? Any more of these troubles and I will change to a standard lol
