To anyone having toploader shift trouble [manual] i just purchased an Hurst Indy shifter, it has sorted out the slow shift from 1st to second, and stopped the linkages jamming the box in reverse as it has been known to do, it also converted the reverse position from down and left, to up and left [ next to 1st gear] so now it slams into second, and no chance of accidently hitting reverse, also has a much shorter throw, im happy , and highly recommend the conversion if you have toploader shifter woes.
Hurst indy shifter with linkages was $399
and $350 to install.
yeh, got one for 350, includes linkages etc, installed it ourselves, made a complete thing so the sifters is right next to the passeneger seat, fkin nice shifts now, very tight and close together for those fast shifts.... yeh and by the way, its not hard to install urself, i think u jipped urself a fair bit of money there....
the brace was basiacally a very light alluminium piece of metal bent at 90 degrees, has the standard center console in it still, looks great, goes better, cant beat the chrome shifter and black nob, looks da coolest!
I've just been through something similar. After having may cars with top loaders and not an ounce of trouble, my latest car has stuck in gear twice.
I have since rebuilt the box and the shifter, and second time i went out the driveway it got stuck again. That was 6 months ago and fortunately it hasnt happed since.
ps
i have modified my original cobra shifter and it now shifts like a Hurst.
