TS 50

Does anybody have a noise in 3rd gear that comes in under load at approx 3000rpm onwards in their BA XR8 manual?

If it is a rattle it is called rollover noise and all manual bosses have it, gt-p included

Rollover noise is the whirring you get from engine running, in neutral, clutch out. It goes away when you put the clutch in. Although similar boxes, the T series are much worse for this than the BA. Feel, and gently load the stick in third gear. You will probably feel a vibration or front to back movement, caused by an incorrectly cut third gear synchro land. This causes the common TR3650 third gear noises. If you have more of a gear whine, get it checked. Ben.

I have the same box in my Au 3, and it has the same problem, According to Malwood Automotive you put Castrol Tranzmax Z oil in. I did this and it quietend it down a heap

Thanks Fellas for input on this problem. The noise is like a rattle coming up the gearstick opening in the console. Probably get it checked next week with the power steering pump whine.

Hi Guys ,

I have a BA XR8 manual and i have had this noise since new. Spoke to Ford when i went for my service and it is a known issue for them. It did originally sound like a pinging noise at first. AFter the service the noise was reduced quiet a bit, but low and behold it is back again. Due for a service shortly will post what they tell me this time.

Hey all,
Sorry for bringing this thread back up, but instead of posting a new one i thought id post in here.
Well ive started to get these rattles in 1st,2nd.3rd gear in my BA xr8 ute.
Its coming from the gear stick , and when i hold the gearstick,it doesnt rattle, but if im not holding it, it rattles like hell under load.
Anyone got any info on this ?

Apart from diff "yagging", diff oil leaks, driveline chatter and massive backlash, I also have the rattling noise in all gears in my GT-P. More noticeable in 3rd, 4th, 5th. Also rather hard to engage gears.

I reckon it may be something to do with the actual shifter, well mine anyway. Mine was doing it the slight rattle under acceleration (sounded like what the old cars did) but has never returned with a short shifter
