Hey guyz, i just had to get the gearbox in my Mk2 Escort reconditioned as the teeth had broken pretty drasticly. I was told it was because there was hardly any oil in the box.

Does anyone know how to put oil in an escort gearbox, i cant see how it is done. i cant even check it.

oh and another thing, when the mechanics where doing this they left the starter motor connected or a wire connected and it drained my battery to near dead, do ya think i should get the mechanics to pay for a new one or just let it be.

I think they are like a single rail where the shifter unscrews? Pour it in there, check your work shop manual as to how much it takes, wouldn't be any more than 2lt I think.

I used a coke bottle cut in 1/2 with some conduit/garden hose attached using electrical tape to secure and poured about 1/2 litre at a time.There is a bung 1/2 way up the side of the g/box. Mind you, you may as well drain and fill with new oil..The funnel/coke bottle fitted behind engine & firewall with hose to g/box.. o/k??
