Overdrive going Ballistic?

hi guys, my o/d light keeps flashing on and off, and a buddy said it could be the tranny...


any ideas?

G'day,
sorry but you don;t give model details which makes it hard.
BUT on a series 1 EB or later it means transmission overheat.

hope this is a start point.

its a 2002 ford explorer xlt with roughly 34k miles

There is a fault in the trans somewhere, go to a Dealership and get the fault codes checked.

PS we have nicknamed these 'Exploders' in Australia .........not really up to our conditions, and Ford have stopped bringing them in now.

I have a similar thing happening with my 99 Windstar. Dealer says it's internal, requiring overhaul ($1600.00 plus parts). Trans was rebuilt at 39,000, and had a pump pin replaced at 75,000. I'm waiting for a second opinion from AAMCO before investing in repairs that exceed the car's value.
