I was just wondering if anybody here knows exactly what that switch on the 4 speed auto changes? Obviously, switching it to power sacrifices economy for power, but how is this achieved? Does it change the settings on the transmission so that it allows the revs to go higher then on the Economy setting, or does it also affect the engine itself?

You got it right, power simply lets the engine rev higher before changing up, and will kick down more readily.
The button was only there for marketing purposes, the transmission could decide for itself the driving style of the driver at any time and act accordingly, but holden had one so ford had to have one as well...

Ahh, I thought so, but I wasn't 100% sure. Thanks for the reply.

Just one more thing, is it likely to be a bad thing to change it whilst the car is in motion, or doesn't it matter in the slightest?

My partner drove the car once (it's her car) with it switched to power instead of economy after the center console lid flew off and pushed the switch over and neither her or I could believe how much fuel it went through in that 30 minutes or so of driving compared to how much fuel it normally goes through...

Bit of a design fault that center console lid - they shoulda put the handbrake there, instead of me banging my knee on the handbrake every time I get into the drivers seat...
