Problem with 5 speed conversion on EBII 5.0

Can anyone tell me if the bellhousings are different between mustang engines and the aussie 5.0?

We were going to my auto in the EB to 5 speed on saturday but after getting all the parts together we found the flywheel didnt actually fit in the bellhousing. The total diameter of the flywheelis 1/4 inch bigger than the bellhousing. :( Would it be a mustang bellhousing? The box is definitly an australian T5 for the V8.

Any ideas?

I was so looking forward to having 5 gears

Re: Problem with 5 speed conversion on EBII 5.0

A Mustang B/H will be too short, have a RHS 2 bolt starter, and the clutch fork on the LHS. The F/W used on both is the same, so if your F/W won't fit, it is probably the wrong one. Count the teeth on the ring gear and post back. B/H will fit the block and the box patterns. Engine will go bang if you fit the incorrect F/W.

If you're not driving a manual you're really just steering.

B/H appears to be the correct factory V8 T5 for EB to AU. What was the tooth count? Sounds like you have a 164 tooth instead of the 157 tooth you need.

Ummmm, its a 168 tooth. What would it be off/for? You dont have a 157 tooth f/w you want to sell do you? Just out of interest, why ould the engine go bang with the wrong flywheel? would it have something to do with the balancer?

Re: Problem with 5 speed conversion on EBII 5.0

The balance specs change between models. Old stuff is 28.2 oz/", injected is 50oz/", and some are zero balance. T series engines are different again. I only have a new Ford Motorsport one, $395. 168 tooth is chevy. Ford should be 157 or 164, but there may be exceptions- anyone seen any different ones?
