Just for pure research sake, i would like to know if anyone has, or is planning to rebuild their T5? What is involved with rebuilding it, rough costs associated?

The reason i'm asking this, is that i am about to put a T5 into my EF XR6, But the box has done over 200k.. I plan on putting it all in, and driving it for a few months, then , around tax time, get the box strengthened and rebuilt.

I'm planning on going to the guy who rebuilt my 4 speed a month ago and asking him what's involved and at what price, but i was interested to see what other forum members have done.

I would like to pull my box apart and replce the sychros and bearings, it's just a matter of finding a time when I wont need my car for a while. Probably not in a hurry, but if I do it I'll let you know whats involved.

Yags if your going to rebuild it, do it before you put it in.

Yeah tikky, this was my first instinct, but the box drives nice, no whining, etc, and i can get it rebuilt for a very cheap price. includes everything, removal, building, etc..

i got my 4 speed completely rebuilt (incl. solenoids) for $650. I'm hoping the 5 speed doesn't require as many parts, or parts that aren't as expensive so i don't have to spend alot..

Why did you spend money on rebuilding the Auto if you were planning to convert to five speed? Or was the manual trans an impulse buy?

You would be supprised how much some bearings can cost in 5 speed transmissions. I'm not sure about Falcons, but I recently rebuilt a Corolla 5 speed box and the main layshaft bearing was almost $300 on trade!! That's NZD$$

The auto rebuild was an accident.. it went in for a check-up, and came back fully rebuilt

Nah, i'm going to be keeping the box or selling it, so it's not big loss..

I'll keep you guys posted.
