Basic Diffs 101

This may sound like another stupid question, but does anybody have any pics of BW 2 and 4 pinion centres so I'll know what I'm looking at when I go hunting for a replacement diff.

Also pics that show the difference between LSD and open centre.

Splines are easy - just a matter of counting if there are 25 or 28 ?
Are all 28 splines the same, or is there one better then another ?

I currently have a disc brake 2.77 LSD in my XE sedan.

The little pinion gears are mounted on shafts. So, if you are buying just the hemisphere (centre) then you can count the shafts, as the ends are visible. 4 shafts = 4 pinion.
