Hey Guys I was just wondering what a shift kit does r they expensive and is there any benefits in installing one

They are for Auto's basicly make the shifts firmer and quicker. Well worth the money if you have an auto.

so they pretty much mean u can change gears manually and roughly without damaging the auto

Even when left in Drive you'll still feel it kick sharply into each gear and change quicker.

how hard are they to fit? or should they be done by an auto place?
can u get them for a XF 3sp?

I dont think you can get the BW35-40's with the shift kit. I tried b4 with my XE and the guy basically said, get a 6cyl c4 instead and do it to that! The BW's cant take it for some reason. I hear you can get the stock converter re-stalled though!

shift kits are available for the BW30-50's but are hard to come across, they are able to be made into a rather strong box, but the information is hard to come across, and not many auto reco places would bother, when a C4 is easy to come across, easier to work on, and easier to stenghen, and is already a lot stronger than the BW's

how much power can u put through an auto before a shift kit is required

and does anyone know much about the "power glider" transmissions i think thats what they r called me mate reckons he is puttin one behind his 351 cause they use less kilowatts than a manual and auto in gettin the power from the engine to the rear wheels

I would only recommend glides in true drag racing applications, but yes, they do use less power than conventional autos plus they can be rebuilt to handle a huge ammount of power. Once again, they are hard to come by. I hear C4's are good for up to 400fwhp in standard condition before any mods are necessary. Generally you see C4's rebuilt with h/d clutches and bands and perhaps a B&M st2 shiftkit put thru it. That will handle ample ammounts of power (300-550hp) without too many hassles at all. (Those in the know, please correct me) Depends on application though!

im looking at potentially 500 to 600 rwhp is that enough for a glider box what is the price range on them and r they hard to come by
