You could just swap the centre and keep ur old ratio. I got mine for $550 + $200 fitting. I think it might have been a rebuilt one. You might be able to swap the whole axle for less though, but the centre would probably have had more wear.
One thing you might want to ask about if ur getting a new centre is a "Lock Right"? It's a locker and I've been told they cost $650, but are a lot stronger than the standard one. The standard ones can crap themselves if u hurt them on a regular basis.
best ratio's would be 3.23 or 3.45 for both take off and highway driving (depending on what u cherish most) a 3.45 is a nice step up from a 3.08 as u would have now.
3.45 LSD's are available from EF/EL XR's and EFII -> EL Fairmont Ghia.
i think the NF/NL Fairlane Ghia's had a 3.23 LSD but i'm not completely sure.

I would think you should be able to pick up a second hand 3.45 for under $500.
Lockers are very expensive and can be dangerous if your not expirenced !
Same goes it Mini Spools, however you may start snapping Axels and wearing out the inner side of your rear tyres, however a mini spool can be brought for around $150
The Lock Right's not a permanent locker, it only comes on when ur legging it. The guy at the diff shop reckoned it's similar to a Detroit Locker. For $650, it's worth it I reckon. Anyone heard of them?
Also wondering if anyone knows if the Yank Mustang 8.8 diffs bolt in? It's a long shot, I know... But they got Torsens, multiplate clutch types and a locker for 31 spline axles. Would be cool if they did.

Sorry should of made it clearer - I was talking about the Mini Spool ! Sounds alright for $650 though !
Ah damn perfect thread! I have 3.23 non-LSD and I am also looking to upgrade the ratio and upgrade to LSD.
I am looking at getting 3.7 but my first priority is getting the damn LSD! How much will it cost just getting LSD and then how much for the gear ratio?
