I just bought a new 03 E 250 a couple months ago, Since the first day i got it the transmission has been really slow to change gears, especiallly from park or drive to reverse usually have to give it at least 3 sec, or it will thump incredibly and really jerk of you give it gas, the dealer said just do what you have been doing and wait between gears, but I am not satisfied, you should not have to wait that long when shifting an automatic transmission what do you think is going on, is this normal for these transmissions? This is my first ford and I am not really sure about these ford tranny characteristics, I've owned GMs all my life and never had any probs like this with those trannsmisions especilly from day one.

This a common problem when the tranny has a bad service record. The tran's probably need's servicing.

Yes but the tranny is brand new as is the whole truck, only has 5,200 miles on it. What do you think is causing this slow engagement?

Are you doing any heavy hauling with it. Have you noticed any slipage?

Have you properly checked the fluid level?? That could easily cause all your symptoms
